Experimental evidence for a high-pressure isostructural phase transition in osmium.
We have measured the isothermal equation of state (EOS) of osmium to 75 GPa under hydrostatic conditions at room temperature using angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction. A least-squares fit of this data using a third-order Birch-Murnaghan EOS yields an isothermal bulk modulus K0=411+/-6 GPa, showing osmium is more compressible than diamond. Most importantly, we have documented an anomaly in the co...

متن کاملElectronic Structure and Optical Properties of BiOI as a Photocatalyst Driven by Visible Light
Bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) is an important photoelectric functional material that has a wide range of applications. In particular, it can be used as a photocatalyst that shows photocatalytic activity under visible-light irradiation. The synthesis procedure and related photocatalytic performance of BiOI have been reported. However, some of its fundamental properties still need to be further invest...
متن کاملHIGH PRESSURE BEHAVIOR OF KCl: STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES
The high pressure behavior of the structural and electronic properties of KC1 is studied with use of the density functional pseudopotential method within local-density approximation. Atzero pressure, the rocksalt phase is found to be lower in energy than CsCl structure. However, we predict a phase transition into CsCI structure at a pressure of about 1.5 GPa. The calculated ground state pro...
متن کاملPressure-driven Quantum Phase Transition
The zero-temperature quantum phase transition (QPT) is driven by quantum fluctuations, in contrast to the more familiar finite temperature transitions driven by thermal fluctuations. This paper demonstrates our work on two kinds of QPTs in two different materials, respectively. The first work focuses on the pressure-driven antiferromagnetic QPT in pure chromium which is a model system for study...
